The new book Development Cooperation and Emerging Powers: new partners or old patterns? deals with the growing Influence of China, Brazil, India, Mexico and South Africa in developing countries. The authors analyse the differences between traditional development cooperation and South-South cooperation. They explore its limits and opportunities for a closer coordination of international development policy among developed and emerging countries. "The growing engagement of emerging countries has great implications for the future of the German and European development cooperation," said Thomas Fues, Head of the Training Department at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE). "We have to adjust to an increasingly complex international situation with more stakeholders.".
‘Development Cooperation and Emerging Powers’ was compiled by Fues in cooperation with Sachin Chaturvedi of the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), and Elizabeth Sidiropoulos of the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA). The book was written as part of the Managing Global Governance programme. The programme trains and supports future leaders from currently eight anchor countries. It provides a unique exchange and learning opportunity for participants from emerging powers on the challenge of creating a sustainable, equitable and effective global governance architecture. The programme provides an opportunity to network, create a stable strategic partnership, and search common solution to global challenges. The programme is a joint project of the DIE and the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). It is conducted on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).Published: 2012Typ: bookISBN: 9781780320632 (pbk.) 1780320639 (pbk.) 9781780320649 (hbk.) 1780320647 (hbk.)
